Overview
The Science Department at Ursuline Academy seeks to create independent thinkers and lifelong learners who will use the tools provided by our discipline to explore the natural world, in order to understand and appreciate its complexity and beauty.
The Science Department is seeking a full-time teacher with an openness to teaching a range of high school science courses to students in grades 9 through 12.
General AuthorityTeacher reports to the department chair who reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning.
Key Accountabilities- Teach five sections of science courses
- Serve as an advisor to a group of students
- Engage in on‑going professional learning
- Use appropriate technology
- Participate in student life
- Develop meaningful and engaging lessons that are responsive to student needs and encourage students to think deeply about their learning
- Work with peer teachers to support a culture of deep learning, model intellectual curiosity, and develop curriculum
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and others in the school community
- A deep commitment to the mission of Ursuline Academy of Dallas and its Catholic identity.
- Readiness to carry out the Catholic Church’s mission of ensuring the formation of students’ faith and intellectual development illuminated by Gospel message.
- An understanding that all duties and responsibilities as an employee of Ursuline Academy shall be performed within this overriding commitment to the mission and the ministry of the Catholic Church.
- An advanced degree in science or a related field.
- The flexibility to teach a variety of high school science courses and grade levels; willingness to teach AP or advanced courses as needed.
- An understanding of the importance of cultivating student well‑being in girls and creating a joyful environment that encourages growth and learning.
- Experience with and openness to technology in the classroom.
- At least two years teaching experience in science at the secondary school level and in-depth knowledge of subject matter; teaching experience in a Catholic and/or independent school and/or all girls’ environment is strongly preferred.
In addition to the above responsibilities, full‑time faculty at Ursuline Academy serve as advisors, actively participate in non‑academic student activities such as moderating clubs, chaperoning events, and student supervision, and enthusiastically pursue professional development opportunities as they join a Catholic, independent school culture.
Compensation commensurate with experience.
