Adjunct faculty plans classes and implements and evaluates teaching/learning objectives and student learning outcomes in conjunction with the Program Coordinator. Adjunct faculty undertakes the divisional and professional responsibilities of a part-time faculty member, including office hours. The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction for lower-division Political Science courses, including American Government I (National), American Government II (state), Introduction to Political Science, Introduction to Public Policy, and various other political science courses.
Most courses are offered in the afternoons and evenings. Adjunct faculty members may be required to use certain texts and meet certain parameters set by the Department of History and Political Science. Adjunct instructors will also be required to include, in their courses, certain student assessment measures determined by the department, and to compile data on those assessment criteria.
A master's degree in political science with outstanding teaching experience in teaching foundational-level Political Science courses, OR a master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Political Science; with outstanding teaching experience in teaching lower-level Political Science courses.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Strong teaching skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
- Ph.D. in Political Science or Ph.D./Ed.D. in Political Science, or equivalent, including 18 graduate hours in Political Science.
- Successful experience teaching adults in a post-secondary institution.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Experience teaching and developing online courses.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.
- No adverse environmental conditions expected.
