Primary Purpose

The HS ELA Curriculum and Instruction Specialist (CIS) writes and develops network‑wide curriculum resources (e.g., unit plans, assessments, and tools for instructional management) at each grade level that align to Uplift's Scope and Sequence. The CIS ensures the network materials are culturally relevant, of high quality, rigorous, and aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme Standards and Practices. The CIS provides training, coaching to, and receives input from, campus leaders and teachers to improve the fidelity of implementation of the network's curriculum.

Duties

/ Responsibilities
  • Curate materials to write curriculum
  • Manage content visions and support systems for network‑wide campus leaders to build teacher capacity
  • Provide content‑specific professional development to school leaders (e.g., whole group, small group, one‑on‑one coaching) to further develop their instructional eye
  • Analyze scholar assessment data (qualitative and quantitative) and share with school leaders to determine how to support teachers, refine units of study, or define targeted intervention support
  • Monitor implementation of the curriculum through cycles of campus observation and feedback (e.g., walkthroughs, school reviews)
  • Obtain input on curriculum from leaders, teachers, and peers to ensure alignment with IB Programme Standards and Practices and vertical coherence across grade bands
  • Provide coordinated support strategies for schools requiring rapid acceleration of student outcomes
  • Develop, update, and monitor curriculum courses on Schoology for supported grade levels/content areas
  • Provide curricular leadership to school leaders by utilizing research‑based teaching and learning practices
  • Assist campus leaders in designing, preparing, and facilitating content‑specific professional development around instructional planning and IB Programme Standards and Practices
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Education, Experience, and Certification
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four‑year college or university required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with curriculum writing and inquiry‑based instruction. International Baccalaureate (IB) experience is a plus.
  • Minimum three years of ELA classroom teaching experience in a high school setting.
  • Formal school leadership experience is preferred (e.g., Assistant Principal, Dean of Instruction).
  • Leadership experience providing teachers and leaders with content‑specific professional development or coaching.
  • Demonstrated and measurable student achievement in the content area on state, nationally norm‑referenced tests, or college readiness exams (STAAR/EOC, ACT, SAT, IB/DP, AP, etc.).
  • Ability to design high‑quality unit and lesson plans and assessments aligned to an objective.
  • Understanding of IB instructional and planning practices.
Required

Skills and Abilities
  • Communication Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and instruction manuals, and procedures. Ability to analyze and apply common sense to understand and carry out instructions in written or oral form. Effective communication with all levels of personnel, students, and parents required.
  • Bi‑lingual Skills: Spanish fluency is a plus.
  • Computer Skills: Competent in Microsoft Office and Google applications; ability to learn and use new computer software as necessary. Ability to use basic office equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The position requires regular sitting and use of wrists, hands, and fingers; occasional standing, walking, climbing, or balancing; lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work is performed at a desk and computer screen for extended periods. The environment involves close proximity to other employees, frequent interruptions, extended computer screen viewing, and noise levels from moderate to high, with occasional distracting activity from students.
