Position Description

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) summer seasonal is a part time, hourly position working with youth to provide hands-on delivery of daily in-house programming including social recreation, team building activities, and an overall environment to build positive relationships during the summer program timeframe.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Club Director, a YDP is responsible for assisting with the development and operation of the summer program. The YDP works to create a welcoming and safe environment for members and aligns new members to program areas, special events, and opportunities. They will provide support in their assigned program area by monitoring members’ behavior, providing instruction, and engaging with members and parents.

The YDP develops and delivers the BGCD and BGCA suite of programs ranging from the games room to teen activities, arts and crafts, the food program, low organized games, outdoor activities, special events, before school program, summer program and group clubs.

Key

Roles & Responsibilities

The YDP is responsible for:

  • Building meaningful relationships with members
  • The delivery of specific program services within the Clubhouse
  • Compliance with organizational operational and HR policies
  • The overall club climate — safety and security, moral compass, guidance
  • Teach and enforce discipline, values, morals, citizenship, manners, life skills
  • Proper reporting, record keeping and reports
  • Janitorial and maintenance of equipment and furnishings
  • Assisting the Program Director in all phases of the overall Club operation
  • Membership administration and program registration
Other Duties
  • Build positive relationships: BGC staff, kids, parents, community stakeholders, visitors, volunteers
Job Responsibilities (Essential)
  • Deliver age-appropriate programs and activities, reflecting Boys & Girls Club’s five core program areas, for children ages 6 – 18
  • Ensure safe implementation of all programs and activities (equipment/facilities condition, age-appropriateness, ability levels, weather, use of equipment and supplies)
  • Orient new members to program area, special events, and opportunities, as well as club safety, program, and disciplinary rules
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate programs, services, and activities for members
  • Ensure program area is attractive, neat, and clean with current bulletin boards and notices
  • Perform other tasks as needed or directed
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain a positive Boys & Girls Club culture with high energy, strong teamwork, and collaboration with other staff
  • Promote daily learning center program participation and special events
  • Maintain productive relationships with parents, school faculty/administrators, staff, and other visitors
  • Participate in club leader meetings to ensure a productive work environment
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 18+ years old
  • Must be able to pass a background check; must be over 18 to work with youth, over 21 to work with teens
  • At least one year of experience working with children
  • Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to a minimum of 6 months in youth work or knowledge of youth development
  • Formal training and/or experience teaching youth with engaging learning experiences
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior; de-escalation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for youth; manage groups during activities
