Middle School Science Teacher

The Shelton School is a co-educational, non-sectarian school that serves approximately 900 students with learning differences in grades EC to 12.

Purpose:

The Middle School Science Teacher services as an advisor, science teacher, and guide of students at the respective grade level and subject area.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3+ years experience as a Middle School Science Teacher desired
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Science Education, or related field;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Desire and positive enthusiasm to work with Middle School Students
  • Experience working with students with learning differences
  • Proficiency in educational technology
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues

Essential Functions:

  • Attendance and punctuality are essential including, but not limited to, daily interaction with students and colleagues.
  • Adhere to all school and division policies and procedures.
  • Provide an effective learning environment and clear classroom structure which adheres to all classroom structure and management guidelines.
  • Utilize effective multi-sensory teaching methodologies and instructional skills based on analysis of diagnostic testing and incorporating appropriate modifications and accommodations.
  • Plan lessons and materials to implement curriculum as outlined in the curriculum guide and support new curricular programs.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete all reports thoroughly and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with students in a professional, calm, and supportive manner and serve as a student advocate.
  • Work as an effective team member with other faculty, new teachers, and non-teaching staff.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and communication skills with parents and colleagues in a supportive and positive manner.
  • Communicate regularly with parents; respond to phone calls or emails within 24 hours.
  • Attend curriculum and staff meetings.
  • Attend parent conferences at least three times a year and other times at the request of the parent or the school administration.
  • Complete the required professional development hours annually by attending staff development, in-service programs, and other training that will impact student learning and/or lead to an advanced degree.
  • Physically manage class in emergency situations including fire drills, weather drills, and lockdown drills.
  • Accompany students to various places in and out of the building, to include, but not limited to lunch, library, special classes, gymnasium, playground and other outdoor areas.
  • Ensure safe transitions to designated areas for all school related safety drills.
  • Provide supervision in various duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, carpool, recess, lunch, and other duties as requested.
  • Chaperone students on field trips and class trips.
  • Support the mission of the Shelton School by promoting the school in a positive manner and facilitating a sense of Shelton community.
  • Fulfill other professional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Adhere to advisory guidelines and procedures if assigned.
