Department SummaryThe University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) is part of the University of North Texas System, which also includes UNT Denton and the UNT Health Fort Worth. UNT Dallas, which is a standalone university in southern Dallas, invites applications for a full‑time, permanent Lecturer position in Biology, beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching and to participate in continued development of the UNT Dallas Department of Natural Sciences, which offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Biology and Chemistry, and has plans to launch a Master's degree in Applied Biotechnology in Fall 2028.
We are particularly interested in student‑centric, innovative, and energetic candidates who can help lead the development of UNT Dallas's Department of Natural Sciences through program development, student recruitment, and community outreach. We seek a Biology generalist who can contribute to the Biology program by teaching a range of biology and health‑related bioscience courses. The Department of Natural Sciences is well equipped for teaching and scholarship with our new state‑of‑the‑art, 115,000‑square‑foot Science Building.
Expectations for full‑time faculty at UNT Dallas include excellent teaching and service, resulting in contributions equivalent to a four‑course load each semester. Faculty are also expected to participate in such service activities as curriculum development, student recruiting and mentoring, program assessment, and committee leadership.
Minimum Qualifications- M.S. in Biology or other closely related field by start date.
- Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
- Experience in teaching first‑year Biology and Biology for non‑science majors.
- Experience in teaching a range of core biology courses such as Cell Biology, Genetics, Anatomy and Physiology, Animal Physiology.
- Microbiology, Ecology, Evolution and associated Laboratory courses, as well as upper‑level courses based on area of expertise.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarship.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated effective written, verbal, and team‑building communication skills.
- Ph.D. in Biology or other closely related field by start date.
- Experience mentoring students and student organizations.
- Experience in curriculum development and developing interdisciplinary degree programs, particularly in a Biotechnology related field.
- Experience in developing and implementing STEM related service learning and experiential learning in curricular and co‑curricular settings.
- Academic experience working with a all student populations.
- Independent instruction of course content in one's discipline, support and scaffolding of student learning, commitment to professional development in pedagogy, curriculum development.
- Service to department, college, university, and profession.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- No adverse environmental conditions expected.
