The Director of Curriculum and Instructional Excellence leads the work of strengthening teaching and learning across KIPP Texas schools, with a focused emphasis on campuses in transformation. This role is anchored in three core priorities: professional learning, deep curriculum expertise, and high‑impact instructional coaching.
The Director serves as a content and curriculum expert within an assigned grade band and subject area, ensuring a clear and coherent understanding of KIPP Texas's adopted high‑quality instructional materials—including Amplify Texas, Amplify ELAR Texas, and HMH Into Literature—and plans and supports their execution to excellence.
Responsibilities- Plan and lead professional development experiences that strengthen content knowledge, build instructional capacity, and deepen understanding of curriculum execution.
- Provide direct, job‑embedded coaching to teachers and instructional leaders, including classroom modeling, observation, actionable feedback, and coaching capacity building.
- Design and facilitate high‑quality professional learning communities (PLCs) and practice clinics across a portfolio of transformation schools (3‑5 campuses).
- Use data‑driven progress monitoring to set clear expectations for curriculum implementation and sustain professional learning structures.
- Partner with school‑based leadership teams, coaching assistant principals and teachers to impact high‑quality instruction and curriculum implementation.
- Support transformational school leaders and teams in data analysis, action planning, and developing organization‑wide improvement plans.
- Manage travel to school sites, regional offices, and external locations; travel may reach 20%–60% of the workday depending on location.
- Maintain a hybrid work environment, spending significant time in schools while also working in regional offices when appropriate.
- Bachelor’s degree;
Master’s degree in Education preferred. - Minimum of 3 years of experience as a successful assistant principal, school leader, or full‑time instructional coach.
- Proven record of results driving instructional growth.
- Deep knowledge of content and pedagogy in a specific content area (K‑5th math, 6th‑8th math, or 9th‑12th math).
- Experience implementing Bluebonnet Math TEKS Edition or Carnegie Math is preferred.
- Strong evidence of strategic thinking, leadership judgment, and the ability to translate instructional expertise into practice.
- Demonstrated belief in the capacity of all students to achieve at high levels and a commitment to collaborative improvement.
- Deep belief in student success, instructional expertise, and collaborative work with diverse leaders and teachers.
- Exceptional ability to set clear metrics, monitor progress, and persist in overcoming obstacles.
- Strong coaching skills that lead to measurable instructional improvement.
- Self‑awareness, humility, and integrity.
- Must be able to move about inside and outside the school throughout the workday.
- Attendance at conferences, meetings, and training sessions both virtually and in person within the region.
