CAMPUS SPECIALIST-READING LANGUAGE - 2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR

Job Goal: Provides students with research-based learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in small group settings.

Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum two years of experience supporting K-2 ELAR and/or ESL classrooms (preferred)
  • Texas Teacher certificate appropriate for level and subject area of assignment (preferred)
  • ESL/Bilingual certification (preferred)
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understand and support the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools.
  • Create a small-group environment conducive to learning, include research-based best practices, and be appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Plan small group lessons that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Provide focused, targeted, and systematic second language acquisition instruction and progress reports to identified emergent bilingual students/English learners.
  • Develop and implement instructional scaffolds for students based on prior analysis of a lesson’s text complexity and formative assessment.
  • In collaboration with the classroom ELAR teacher, analyze formative/summative assessment data to plan and make informed adjustments to lesson preparation and instruction for small groups.
  • Evaluate student work samples against established criteria to identify and analyze trends and plan instructional next steps.
  • Support students in setting goals and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Analyze year-long curriculum to anticipate student struggles and map prerequisite knowledge for a unit of instruction.
  • Refer students for evaluation by district specialists as required.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life, conduct, and equity.
  • Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Participate in district and campus staff development.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of reading curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
  • Ability to use effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copier and telephone.
  • Ability to analyze data.
Work Environment and

Physical Requirements
  • Light work: may require the occasional light lifting.
  • Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
  • Position is in classroom setting and intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
  • Moderate travel is required.
