We are seeking skilled Educational Sign Language Interpreters to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a school setting. In this role, you will facilitate communication between students, teachers, and staff by interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, ensuring full access to classroom instruction and activities.
Assignment Details- School Sites:
- Woodrow Wilson High School
- JL Long Middle School
- Mockingbird Elementary
- Schedule:
37.5 hours per week - Current Need:
- 2 openings for the remainder of this school year (7 weeks)
- 12 additional openings for the upcoming school year (40 weeks)
- Setting:
Onsite, school-based - Caseload:
Assigned group of students requiring interpretation services
- Provide real-time ASL interpretation for classroom instruction and school activities
- Support communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Maintain professional standards and confidentiality
- Collaborate with school staff and special education teams
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Minimum 1 year of interpreter experience
- BEI Certification (preferred)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in interpreting, deaf studies, or related field (preferred)
- Certifications as required by state/client (EIPA, RID, etc.)
- Must meet all federal, state, and local compliance requirements
- Current health screenings (TB, physical, CPR if applicable)
- Virtual interview with Coordinator and Lead Interpreter
- Candidates must be prepared to demonstrate signing skills
Local Candidates:
- $40/hour
- Approx. weekly package: $1,500
Travel Candidates:
- $20/hour + stipends
- $400/week meals + $500/week housing
- Approx. weekly package: $1,650
- Strong client relationship (fast feedback)
