JOB SUMMARYTo create a flexible instructional program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students and motivate them to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for further advancement in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to build good relationships with other staff members; to ensure that curricula maximize student‑learning experiences; to demonstrate competency in the core academic subject(s) assigned;
and to provide students with educational activities that enable them to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Teachers help students develop the skills necessary to be productive members of society.
- Utilize school technologies appropriately and attend required training as directed by the Principal.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Comply with federal and state law and school policies and regulations.
- Maintain a safe learning environment.
- Teach instructional subjects according to Texas Education Agency guidelines and school‑approved curriculum (TEKS).
- Instruct students in citizenship, character development, and basic subject matter as specified by school policy.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs and ensure written plans are available for review.
- Show modifications in lesson plans for differences in student learning styles.
- Design instructional activities using data from student learning style assessments.
- Collaborate with special education and ESL teachers on individual education plans.
- Translate lessons into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Model citizenship and lessons for students.
- Use effective classroom management techniques that foster a safe and positive environment for all students and staff.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Report pertinent information to the Principal regarding child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
- Establish, share, and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
- Control student behavior in accordance with the student handbook.
- Anticipate and address unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children.
- Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Identify pupil needs, make referrals, and develop strategies for individual education plans.
- Assist students in assessing and enhancing study methods and habits.
- Produce formal and informal testing to evaluate student success.
- Coordinate and manage extracurricular duties and sponsor approved outside activities.
- Establish communication rapport with parents, students, principals, and teachers through conferences.
- Create and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members to support a diverse student population.
- Model professional, moral, and ethical standards, personal integrity, and non‑discriminatory practices.
- Engage in professional development activities to keep materials, supplies, and skills up‑to‑date.
- Participate in curriculum development, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship as requested.
Supervises classroom assistants, students, and volunteers.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms other related work as required.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
- At least one year of teaching experience preferred.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred, or demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area(s) assigned.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
