Secondary School Counselor
A+ Charter Schools, A+ Academy Secondary – Dallas, Texas. Full‑time, exempt position. The role reports to the Campus Principal and involves 207 duty days per year.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree and a valid Texas Counselor’s Certificate (or a licensed Professional Counselor Certificate). Two years of classroom teaching experience is preferred.
Responsibilities- Effectively plan and implement the school guidance and counseling program to meet identified student needs.
- Teach the school developmental guidance curriculum.
- Provide individualized and group guidance to help students develop academic, career, and personal plans.
- Offer counseling on postsecondary options, financial aid guidance (if applicable), and conduct annual student and parent counseling.
- Collaborate with district staff to administer testing, appraisal programs, and related services.
- Use an effective referral process to connect students with special programs and services.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, the State Board of Education, and local guidance and counseling regulations.
- Serve as a positive role model, supporting the mission of the school district.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with administrators and colleagues.
- Adhere to all district and local campus routines and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the broader community.
- Recognize and respond to evolving student and community needs.
- Evaluate the guidance program’s effectiveness and implement necessary changes.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to enhance student support.
- Proactively seek professional growth opportunities to improve job performance.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
- Serve as a resource to staff and the community.
- Articulate the district’s mission and guide goals to the community and secure support.
- Employ effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree.
- Valid Texas Counselor’s Certificate (preferred). Licensed Professional Counselor Certificate also preferred.
- At least two years of classroom teaching experience.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of state and federal counseling regulations.
