Position Overview
This position is responsible for advising students on degree/program requirements and course scheduling. Maintains and updates student status records, transcript evaluations, degree plan audits, and graduation applications. Responsible for taking a leadership role in training and mentoring other advisors, participating in outreach/recruitment activities, managing special projects, and/or serving as a subject matter expert on specialized majors and determining how transfer credits apply toward degree requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and three years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, professional academic advising, or related experience. A master's degree can substitute for one year of experience.

Skills and Abilities
* Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
* Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory.
* Strong presentation, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
* Ability to communicate effectively with wide populations verbally and in writing.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
* Ability to work independently

Job Duties
* Evaluates transcripts, AP scores, CLEP, or other nontraditional transfer credit hours for applicability to UNT Dallas degree programs according to established criteria.
* Compares contents of each degree plan against the established requirements for a particular degree and notifies student of discrepancies.
* Proactively advises students and groups from entry to completion; provides career/pathway exploration and career planning.
* Provide holistic student support through collaboration with academic units and the division of Student Access and Success
* Works with advising team utilizing case management methods.
* Contacts students who have received academic alerts to recommend solutions and provide support
* Confers with faculty or administrators with regard to academic policy issues, such as acceptable course substitutes for a particular degree.
* Assists the Registrar's Office in determining student eligibility for graduation.
* Assists with graduation exercises.
* May serve as contact person for specialized programs of study or certificate programs
* Advises students pursuing a post Baccalaureate degree or certificate
* Work with students with a UNT Dallas GPA below 2.0 to develop a plan for academic recovery.
