Full-time Faculty Member for Surgical Technology

South College invites applications for the position of Full-time Faculty Member for Surgical Technology. This role will provide didactic, clinical and lab instruction.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing quality instruction in each assigned course within the approved academic program curriculum.
  • Assisting in the development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Participating in the student advising process.
  • Participating in institution/school/department committees.
  • Planning and participating in scholarship and service activities.
  • Assisting with the orientation and mentoring of a new faculty member.
  • Assisting with the continuous review of and compliance with applicable accrediting, federal, and state standards.
  • Developing appropriate academic lectures, labs, and other learning experiences.
  • Grading assignments in a timely manner.
  • Planning evaluation criteria to determine student achievement of course objectives.
  • Following approved course outlines and textbooks.
  • Completing all academic program requirements and forms of documentation.
  • Submitting official grades at the end of each term.
  • Assisting with the development of curricular and policy changes.
  • Seeking to improve knowledge and usage of classroom and course technology.
  • Attending and participating in all general and School/Department faculty meetings, advisory board meetings, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Implementing effective retention policies.
  • Participating in the institution's annual planning processes and in the School/Department planning activities.
  • Participating in approved professional development activities.
  • Participating in annual School/Department community service project.
  • Completing scholarly activities as appropriate.
  • Adhering to all institutional and School/Department policies.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.

Requirements include:

  • A minimum of an earned bachelor's degree.
  • Graduation from an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • A credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • A minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
  • Strong communication and technology skills.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
