Student Management Officer

Primary

Purpose:

Support campus administration in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment that promotes student success and complies with district policies, the Texas Education Agency Student Code of Conduct, and applicable state and federal laws. Assist with student behavior management, attendance intervention, conflict resolution, and campus supervision.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Education, Behavioral Sciences, or related field preferred. CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or de-escalation training preferred. Valid Texas driver's license, if travel is required.

Experience:

Experience working with youth in an educational, behavioral, law enforcement, or community setting preferred. Experience with student discipline, conflict mediation, or behavior intervention preferred.

Special Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of student behavior management strategies and intervention techniques. Familiarity with district discipline procedures and student conduct expectations. Understanding of applicable laws related to student discipline, attendance, and campus safety. Ability to de-escalate conflicts and respond calmly in stressful situations. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, administrators, and staff.

Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Student Behavior & Discipline:
Assist administrators in maintaining student discipline and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct. Monitor student behavior in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, buses, and other campus areas. Intervene in student conflicts and assist with de-escalation and resolution efforts. Support implementation of behavior intervention plans and restorative practices, as assigned.

Campus Safety & Supervision:
Assist in maintaining a safe and secure school environment. Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch periods, extracurricular activities, and other campus events. Monitor campus access points and report safety concerns to administrators. Respond appropriately to emergencies, disruptions, or incidents involving students.

Attendance & Student Support:
Assist with attendance monitoring and intervention efforts to improve student attendance. Build positive relationships with students to encourage appropriate behavior and engagement. Refer students to counselors, administrators, or support services when appropriate. Support students in developing conflict-resolution, responsibility, and decision-making skills.

Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of incidents, referrals, interventions, and disciplinary actions. Prepare written reports and documentation as required by district procedures. Assist administrators with investigations related to student misconduct, as assigned.

Communication &

Collaboration:

Communicate professionally with students, parents, staff, and community members. Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and support personnel to address student needs. Participate in staff meetings, campus safety planning, and professional development activities.

Working Conditions:

Frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout campus. May require physical restraint consistent with district training and policy when necessary to maintain safety. Occasional evening or weekend assignments for school activities or events. Exposure to potentially disruptive or confrontational situations.
