Position Summary

Assist teacher to provide for physical and instructional needs of student with disabilities.

Position Requirements Education/Certification/License
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Bilingual Preferred
Experience
  • Some experience working with children
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
  • Regular heavy lifting of students
  • Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Supervise students inside and outside the classroom
  • Assist students with physical disabilities, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning, and with physical and personal care needs
  • Help teacher prepare instructional materials
  • Assist with preparation of administrative records and required reports
  • Attends staff, in-service, and parent education meetings
  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of student.
  • Conduct instructional exercises with individual and small groups of students
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain friendly customer service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  • Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communications (i.e., email, written, and verbal)
  • Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned
Equipment Used

Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.

Maintain emotional control under stress.
