Position: Mechanical Design Engineer (HVAC/MEP)

💰 $75,000 – $95,000 annually (DOE)

About the Role

VP Engineering is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing MEP consulting team. This role is ideal for an HVAC-focused engineer with experience in multifamily and commercial building design who thrives in a collaborative, quality-driven environment.

You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Design Managers, and fellow engineers to deliver code-compliant, constructible, and client-focused mechanical designs across a diverse portfolio of projects.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with Design Managers and project teams to uphold mechanical design standards and quality control
  • Develop and review mechanical construction documents for accuracy, constructability, and code compliance
  • Perform HVAC system design, equipment selection, and load calculations
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to meet project budgets, schedules, and milestones
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and national building codes
  • Uphold VP Engineering’s core values of integrity, professionalism, responsiveness, and respect
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
  • 5+ years of HVAC system design experience for commercial and/or multifamily buildings
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • Heat gain/loss calculations (Manual J, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or similar)
    • HVAC and plumbing equipment selection
    • Ductwork and piping design
    • Hydraulic calculations
    • International Building Codes and applicable standards
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Experience with HVAC load calculation and psychrometric analysis tools
  • Ability to interpret construction documents, codes, and technical specifications
