About the RoleVP Engineering is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing MEP consulting team. This role is ideal for an HVAC-focused engineer with experience in multifamily and commercial building design who thrives in a collaborative, quality-driven environment.
You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Design Managers, and fellow engineers to deliver code-compliant, constructible, and client-focused mechanical designs across a diverse portfolio of projects.
What You'll Do- Collaborate with Design Managers and project teams to uphold mechanical design standards and quality control
- Develop and review mechanical construction documents for accuracy, constructability, and code compliance
- Perform HVAC system design, equipment selection, and load calculations
- Coordinate with Project Managers to meet project budgets, schedules, and milestones
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and national building codes
- Uphold VP Engineering’s core values of integrity, professionalism, responsiveness, and respect
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- 5+ years of HVAC system design experience for commercial and/or multifamily buildings
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Heat gain/loss calculations (Manual J, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or similar)
- HVAC and plumbing equipment selection
- Ductwork and piping design
- Hydraulic calculations
- International Building Codes and applicable standards
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Experience with HVAC load calculation and psychrometric analysis tools
- Ability to interpret construction documents, codes, and technical specifications
