Job Description
Burgess Construction Consultants, Inc. is seeking a highly qualified Professional Engineer (P.E.) to join our engineering team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of residential, multi-family, retail, and light commercial projects while contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing organization. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering quality engineering solutions.
This role involves structural design, project coordination, client interaction, field support, and mentorship of junior staff.
- Perform structural analysis and design for residential, multi‑family, retail, and light commercial structures, including foundation and retaining wall systems
- Prepare structural calculations, plans, and construction details
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and government agencies
- Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control activities
- Conduct site visits, perform field observations, and resolve construction issues
- Participate in and support the development of junior and entry‑level engineering staff
- Contribute to multi‑discipline design and construction projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required (Master’s degree preferred)
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required
- Ability to obtain licensure in multiple states
- 7–10 years of structural engineering experience
- Minimum of 3 years of residential design experience
- Working knowledge of AISC, ACI 318, ASCE 7, and IBC
- Familiarity with local building codes and permitting processes
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable drafting software
- Experience with structural analysis and design software (RAM Structural Systems, RAM Elements, Concept, or similar)
- Experience designing structural systems using steel, concrete, wood, and precast materials
- General understanding of related disciplines, including geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and surveying
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Professional demeanor with a client‑service mindset
- Willingness to travel as required
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed
- Ability to travel to project and construction sites
- Ability to safely access and navigate active construction environments
