Job Summary:
The CMT Concrete Lab Technician is responsible for performing laboratory testing of concrete and other construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements. The Lab Technician assists the Lab Manager in all aspects of the Lab testing, including lab testing principles, practices and procedures. The ability to perform materials testing on soils, concrete, and demonstrated capability for communication and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Check the concrete log for samples delivered from field technicians
- Strip, Mark and store cylinders in correct curing rooms
- Perform compressive strength testing on concrete cylinders
- Operate and maintain testing equipment in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards
- Accurately record and report test results in a timely manner
- Ensure lab cleanliness and proper storage of materials and documentation
- Follow all safety protocols and comply with regulatory requirements (e.g., ACI, ASTM, TxDOT)
- Job site visits to pick up cylinders (as needed)
- Clearly document in detail lab testing results
- Communicate with technicians
- Perform materials testing
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or coursework in construction or engineering preferred
- ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
- Basic understanding of construction materials and laboratory procedures
- Attention to detail and ability to follow standardized testing procedures
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs)
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license
