A Precast Product Engineering Manager oversees the design, technical documentation, and cross-functional support for precast concrete products, ensuring they meet structural integrity, project specifications, and production efficiency requirements. This role balances leadership of the engineering team with collaboration across sales, production, and installation to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
Core Responsibilities- Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of engineers and drafters, reviewing structural calculations, shop drawings, and connection designs.
- Design & Standards: Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes (e.g., PCI, ASTM, AASHTO) and internal quality standards.
- Production Support: Partner with operations to optimize workflows, develop tooling, and address technical non-conformances during fabrication.
- Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, architects, and contractors to align design specifications with project goals and timelines.
- Innovation & Process: Champion process improvements, lean principles, and new technologies to enhance design efficiency and product innovation.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (PE license or completed or near completed EIT training).
- Experience: Typically 5–7+ years of Civil/structural engineering experience, with specific expertise in precast concrete.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, Revit) and structural analysis software (e.g., Tekla, ETABS). - Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities to manage team performance and external stakeholders.
The position is vital for achieving the lowest possible cost through economical design and material usage, while maintaining a high-performance culture that prioritizes safety and technical excellence.
