As a Senior Substation Structural Engineer, you will have the opportunity to:

• Lead structural design engineering and analysis on substation scopes
• Collect and assimilate data for engineering work; perform research and prepare calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards
• Develop recommendations for equipment and materials; understand and work successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements
• Provide guidance to engineering team members and maintain positive client relations through effective communication with the project team; may assist with business development activities
• Function as a technical specialist or manager/administrator for a group; may supervise engineering staff on medium to high complexity projects and serve as a key reference for technical guidance

Engineering Standards:

• Proactively provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies
• Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards
• Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines

Quality / Continuous Improvement:

• Independently apply knowledge and comply with Black & Veatch quality program
• Ensure compliance with Black & Veatch quality program and provide related guidance
• Support continuous improvement and change‑management efforts

Engineering Production:

• Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects
• Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
• Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work
• Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
• Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
• Develop and apply advanced engineering solutions to complex problems
• Review lower‑level engineering work or assignments and establish work plans for projects
• Lead larger production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activity, and serve as the responsible charge for a project

Project Coordination:

• Actively coordinate with all internal/external team members on moderately complex and complex projects
• Define project schedules for single discipline or multiple disciplines

Client Focus:

• Determine key client interests and drivers on moderately complex projects; communicate these to the project team and develop approaches to accommodate concerns
• Support business development or pursuit activities

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:

• Serve as a technical specialist and provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area
• Support multiple projects on complex technical challenges
• Foster knowledge management and mentor team members
• Apply advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems

People Management (supervision, career development, training, mentoring):

• Assist with performance management, mentoring, recognition, and corrective actions
• Participate in career planning, learning, and development

Resource Management (budgets, tools, processes, project support):

• Implement resource management strategy and manage engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline

Administrative:

• Perform office administration responsibilities
• Implement policies, procedures, and processes for the workgroup
• Ensure adherence to corporate and division programs
• Approve timesheets and expense reports

• Active PE License
• Advanced knowledge of Structural Engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards
• Intermediate to advanced structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or equivalent
• Foundation design experience using analysis and design software such as LPile, RISA Foundation, SP‑Mats, etc.
• Experience performing structural connection and miscellaneous calculations using MS Excel and/or Mathcad
