Job Description

Ensures lead-based paint abatements are assessed and completed in a manner that reduces lead poisoning risks through proper design, construction, and clearance. Works with contractors, inspectors, home occupants, and other staff to see that abatements are conducted safely, effectively, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

Performs lead assessments in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Maintains accurate documentation of inspections, remediation activities, contractor performance, and clearance results in accordance with program and grant requirements. Coordinates and monitors lead hazard control and remediation work in eligible housing units, ensuring activities are completed in accordance with program requirements and safety standards. Oversees contractors performing lead hazard abatement to ensure work is completed satisfactorily, on schedule, and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Prepares reports for single-family homes that identify lead hazards and specifies required remediation activities and necessary repairs to eliminate lead risks. Notifies certified testing companies when clearance testing is required following remediation activities and coordinates testing timelines with contractors and program staff. Ensures clearance samples demonstrate homes meet lead-safe standards and is safe for occupants to return following remediation work.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a job-related field of study. One (1) year work-related experience in a field related to lead, asbestos, public health, or environmental remediation work. Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must possess or be able to obtain Lead Inspector Certification withing sixty (60) days of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record. Ability to drive to various site locations. Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Work requires normal sitting and standing and generally the occasional lifting of 25 pounds or less.
