HDR is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Power Generation team. This role supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors. The Mechanical Engineer will work side‑by‑side with experts to design and specify power generation fluid systems, including steam, condensate, fuel gas, cooling water, and compressed air, and will develop construction documents (P&IDs, layout drawings, specifications), review vendor submittals, conduct site visits, plan projects, and manage schedules and budgets.
The candidate will progress from a mechanical or lead engineer to a project engineer and ultimately a project or engineering manager. Team collaboration, mentoring, and leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly and manage a small engineering team.
Travel is required for site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings, and construction monitoring, but generally less than 10% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- 5+ years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry, combining design and field projects.
- P.E. license in Texas or ability to obtain reciprocity.
- Strong coordination, communication, written, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Attention to accuracy, detail orientation, self‑directed learning, meeting deadlines, and multitasking.
- Willingness to mentor EITs.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position (e.g., P.E. or P.Eng).
- Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market sector.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit).
