Job Summary

Job Description Overview The  Senior Hydrologist performs a variety of technical duties in the collection and analysis of hydrology, hydrogeology, and groundwater contamination data for the City's Water Utility. Manages surface and groundwater resources, provides project oversight for technical staff, assists with resolving problems involving hydrology, hydrogeology,contaminant hydrogeology, and contaminant impacts to water supplies and water use.

Essential Functions Directs and coordinates the collection and development of hydrologic and meteorological data; designs, installs, equips, and maintains gauges used to monitor and collect hydrologic and meteorological data.
2 Collects surface water and groundwater samples according to proper and appropriate procedures and protocols; measures flow rates of streams to assess storm water run-off and to determine estimated recharge to aquifers; compiles monthly and annual discharge summaries using measured stream flow.
3 Constructs, improves, uses and review surface water and groundwater models for the local area; provides professional insight and hydrology knowledge.
4 Oversees surface water monitoring and water well drilling programs including design, development of specifications, management and review of construction and testing results.
5 Prepares, drafts, and presents reports describing project activities using computer graphics in report preparation and presenting project results at public meetings.
6 Oversees and ensure that assigned personnel perform duties and responsibilities in a safe and prudent manner that does not expose them or others to unnecessary harm or risk of on-the-job injury.
7 Initiates, oversees, and reviews technical work performed by contractors to ensure the focus, results, and recommendations are directly relevant to task, project, or program goals and objectives.
8 Provides technical support for Emergency Operations Management and provides senior level leadership to address related concerns.
9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of Dallas Water Utility and related facilities and activities.
2 Knowledge of division policies and procedures.
3 Knowledge of computer software specific to the utility and related procedures.
4 Knowledge of complex technical analysis of water quantity and water quality.
5 Knowledge of principles and practices of project development and management.
6 Knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, and hydraulics related to hydrology and hydrogeology.
7 Ability to perform hydrological tasks and testing, make recommendations, and implement changes.
8 Ability to design modeling and data forecasting information to influence decision making.
9 Ability to test and collect samples to determine contaminants.
10 Ability to analyze data, develop valid conclusions, and make decisions and recommendations.
11 Ability to read and interpret regulations and policies.
12 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
13 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a Hydrology, or Engineering field.

EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years of experience in hydrology (e.g. performing hydrologic data collection, hydrologic analysis or water supply modeling.)EQUIVALENCY:

A master's degree or higher in a specified field plus three (3) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Experience with River Ware software and Water Rights Analysis Package (WRAP) required.

Salary Range $73,590.40 - $91,977.60

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
