Position: Electrical Engineering Spring Co-op (January 2027) (R4475)

Job Description

Our 2027 Co‑Op program offers a paid, full‑time opportunity for rising 2027 graduates to gain deep, hands‑on experience in a mission‑driven and innovative engineering environment. The program spans multiple months during the academic year, providing extended immersion in real‑world hardware development and testing.

Shield AI is seeking an exceptional Co‑Op candidate to build our autonomous aircraft. You will join a cross‑functional team of talented engineers in a culture of mentorship, kindness, ownership, and hard work. The ideal start date is January 2027, with a flexible end date.

What you'll do
  • Own a project tailored to your start date, duration, and location.
  • Contribute directly to the success of our novel aircraft development program, understanding how your project aligns with our critical path objectives.
  • Work with a senior engineer as your mentor for technical input and professional development.
Examples of projects
  • Design a circuit board involving analog, digital, mixed‑signal, high‑speed circuits to test a prototype flight computer.
  • Design, simulate, and verify high‑voltage power electronics (>10 kW) DC/DC converters and DC/AC inverters.
  • Assist a senior engineer in bring‑up and validation of a new avionics system.
  • Identify bugs and drive changes to fix them.
  • Build a test rack for fully automated test coverage of a flight‑critical sub‑system.
  • Run a HALT campaign to ensure a series of new circuit boards are highly reliable.
Required qualifications
  • Completed at least the second year of a relevant degree, typically Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong technical fundamentals.
  • Experience as part of an engineering team or club.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software and tools such as Altium, KiCAD, and oscilloscopes.
  • Demonstrated history of ownership of project outcomes and delivery of exceptional results.
  • Record of hard work, trustworthiness, high standards, and kindness to teammates.
Compensation
  • Rising Bachelor's graduate: $40/hour
  • Rising Master's graduate: $45/hour
  • Rising PhD graduate: $56/hour
  • Housing stipend provided for qualifying candidates.
  • Eligible for benefits such as PTO, 401(k), healthcare, etc.
