HV Underground Transmission Engineer

The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to accommodate regional and global demand growth, decarbonization and energy transition targets. Underground and subsea cable technology is increasingly becoming a major player in this paradigm shift to enable large‑scale and long‑distance power transmission.

• Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept/detailed design, design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
• Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare specifications for cable route, reports and progress reports.
• Confirm correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects.
• Attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
• Support factory inspections and FAT/SAT commissioning related to cable systems.
• Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, electromechanical and thermomechanical forces and EMF calculations, and health‑induced voltage calculations.
• Perform design reviews and verification of design.
• Confirm that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works and formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the program to proceed without delay.
• Confirm that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the specifications, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related engineering discipline from a recognized institution. Master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of direct experience with underground and/or subsea cable design and installation.
• Ability to work with cable design software such as CYMCAP.
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE.
• Experience working with major global cable OEMs.
• Ability and willingness to travel within North America.

• Experience with HVDC and subsea cable technologies.
• Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Active/ongoing involvement in power cable related working groups and standards committees such as ICC or CIGRE.

Base salary range: $ to $ (determined by work location and additional factors).
