Your impact

Jacobs is seeking a mid‑level Transportation Drainage Engineer to join our Dallas office, supporting highway, bridge, and rail projects across Texas and other states. This role is ideal for an experienced drainage professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and is motivated to grow into task leadership and, over time, broader leadership responsibilities.

In this position, you will contribute to the planning, analysis, and design of transportation drainage systems while working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway and bridge engineers. As you develop in the role, you will take on increasing responsibility for task management, coordination, and mentoring of junior staff, supporting both project delivery and team growth.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work in a team environment with other project engineers on the detailed enclosed storm drainage analysis and design for urban and rural transportation projects.
  • Conducts drainage analysis and design per the requirements of the project and various transportation and public works agencies.
  • Support the efforts in the preparation of contract drainage drawings, specifications, and estimates.
  • Prepares projects specific drainage / hydraulic reports and technical memorandum.
  • Provide hydraulic impact analysis for cross drainage structures and incorporate the results in the design with other disciplines (roadway and bridge).
  • Assist with mentoring and technical development of junior engineers
Here’s what you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required from a U.S. ABET accredited school or equivalent.
  • Registration as Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas is required or the ability to obtain in six (6) months from the hiring date if licensed in another state.
  • +5 years of experience working on mid‑and/or large‑scale transportation related projects providing drainage design, hydrologic, and hydraulic analyses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and coordinate all drainage design phases of a project with other team disciplines.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Proficiency with Micro Station and Open Roads Designer Drainage and Utilities (DU).
  • Experience with GIS software such as ESRI Arc Map, ArcGIS Pro, or QGIS.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (HEC RAS, HEC HMS, and HY 8, etc.).
  • Experience with advanced hydraulic modeling tools such as HEC RAS 2D, XPSWMM, or Info Works ICM.

The base salary range for this position is $ to $. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
