The OpportunityAs a Senior Substation Structural Engineer
, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead structural design engineering and analysis on substation scopes
- Collect and assimilate data for engineering work. Perform research and prepare calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards.
- Develop recommendations for equipment and materials. Understand and work successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements.
- May assist with providing guidance to engineering team members. Maintain positive client relations understanding client interests and drivers through effective communication with the project team. May assist with business development activities.
- Functions as technical specialist, or has management and/or administrative responsibilities for a group. May supervise engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity, and/or is recognized as a key reference for technical guidance through depth and breadth of knowledge. Has some influence for scope of responsibilities within the organization.
- Proactively provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies
- Assists in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards
- Provides technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines
- Independently applies knowledge and complies with Black & Veatch quality program
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with Black & Veatch quality program
- Provides related guidance and direction to others
- Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts
- Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects
- Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
- Oversees collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work
- Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
- Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
- Develops and applies advanced engineering solutions to complex problems
- Independently applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis problems and methods
- Reviews lower-level engineering work or assignments
- Establishes work plan to be applied to a given project
- Is responsible for one or more of the following:
- leading larger production teams; coordinating multiple discipline activity; and serving as the responsible charge for a project
- Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex and complex projects
- Typically responsible for defining project schedules for single discipline or may have responsibility for multiple disciplines
- Responsible for determining identification of key client interests and drivers on moderately complex projects and may determine the key clients in some instances
- Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projects
- May offer other services to the clients
- Typically provides support to business development or pursuit activities
- Serves as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area
- Typically supports multiple projects on the complex technical challenges
- Actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring
- Develops and applies advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems
- Typically assists with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required
- May participate in career planning, and learning and development
- Implements resource management strategy
- Manages engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline
- Administrative responsibilities may include office administration
- Ensures policies, procedures, and processes are effectively implemented and communicated for workgroup
- Ensures adherence to corporate and division programs
- May approve timesheets and expense reports
- Active PE License
- Advanced knowledge of Structural Engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards
- Intermediate to advanced structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or equivalent
- Foundation design experience using analysis and design software such as LPile, RISA Foundation, SP-Mats, etc.
- Experience performing structural connection and miscellaneous calculations using MS Excel and/or Mathcad
