Job Summary
Ensures lead‑based paint abatements are assessed and completed in a manner that reduces lead poisoning risks through proper design, construction, and clearance. Works with contractors, inspectors, home occupants, and other staff to see that abatements are conducted safely, effectively, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Responsibilities- Perform lead assessments in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, remediation activities, contractor performance, and clearance results in accordance with program and grant requirements.
- Coordinate and monitor lead hazard control and remediation work in eligible housing units, ensuring activities are completed in accordance with program requirements and safety standards.
- Oversee contractors performing lead hazard abatement to ensure work is completed satisfactorily, on schedule, and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare reports for single‑family homes that identify lead hazards and specify required remediation activities and necessary repairs to eliminate lead risks.
- Notify certified testing companies when clearance testing is required following remediation activities and coordinate testing timelines with contractors and program staff.
- Ensure clearance samples demonstrate homes meet lead‑safe standards and are safe for occupants to return following remediation work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related field. - Experience:
One (1) year of work‑related experience in a field related to lead, asbestos, public health, or environmental remediation work. - Certification:
Must possess or obtain Lead Inspector Certification within sixty (60) days of employment. - License:
Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record; ability to drive to various site locations. - Computer
Skills:
Proficiency with standard software applications. - Communication:
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, and the general public. - Physical/Environmental:
Work requires normal sitting and standing and generally occasional lifting of 25 pounds or less.
