Position

Summary

The Environmental Specialist plays a critical role in supporting sustainable operations across domestic and international oil and gas operations. Applies well-developed knowledge of environmental assessment and regulatory compliance to manage permitting obligations and evaluate new market entry. This role contributes directly to maintaining regulatory compliance, advancing the company's environmental standards, and supporting the social license to operate in both established and emerging markets.

Supports the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the company's environmental documentation in alignment with the Operational Management System (OMS). This includes translating corporate environmental expectations into practical field and project-level processes, managing regulatory reporting obligations, supporting international E&S due diligence, and collaborating with internal teams, financial partners, NGOs, and governmental bodies to ensure controls, documentation, and performance measures align with organizational and international standards.

Responsibilities
  • Manage preparation and submission of domestic environmental permits and regulatory reports including Tier II, air permits, emissions inventories, and GHG reporting.
  • Manage Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments for domestic acquisitions, new site evaluations, and operational areas.
  • Monitor applicable domestic and international environmental regulations and ensure ongoing operational compliance across active operations and new entry projects.
  • Support environmental and social due diligence for international exploration opportunities, acquisitions, and new market evaluations, including regulatory gap analyses, permitting pathway assessments, and baseline studies to assess risk profiles.
  • Develop country-specific Environmental & Social Management Plans (ESMPs) in alignment with host country regulations, IFC Performance Standards, and Equator Principles.
  • Lead environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs) for new country entry and existing operations, ensuring findings are integrated into project planning and decision‑making.
  • Support spill preparedness, response and remediation activities.
  • Collaborate with legal, government affairs, social investment and operations teams to ensure environmental and social considerations are integrated into project planning from early‑stage evaluation through execution.
  • Maintain environmental documentation and records within the operational management system.
  • Support company ESG and sustainability reporting by contributing environmental performance data and ensuring alignment with applicable disclosure frameworks.
  • Develop and periodically review company environmental and social policies, standards, and procedures ensuring compliance with the Operational Management System requirements.
  • Support emissions monitoring programs and air permitting efforts to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable federal and state requirements.
Required Skills
  • Understanding of Oil and Gas operations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of environmental with at least 2 years directly in the oil and gas industry.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Experience leading or supporting Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) in domestic or international contexts.
  • Familiarity with domestic environmental regulatory frameworks including EPA permitting, air quality, Tier II, GHG reporting, and SPAC requirements.
