Position OverviewThe Engineering Lead serves as the primary technical authority across Base Electron's power generation portfolio. This role leads engineering activities from project origination through development, design, construction, commissioning, and ultimately commercial operations. The Engineering Lead will evaluate new project opportunities, guide technology selection, oversee engineering consultants OEM’s and EPC contractors, manage technical due diligence efforts, and provide strategic input into commercial and investment decisions.
This individual will lead the company's engineering activities, ensuring projects are technically sound, economically optimized, and positioned for long-term operational success.
This position is initially focused on project development and execution but will evolve into a broader asset management and engineering leadership role as Base Electron's operating fleet grows. The ideal candidate combines deep power generation expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
Key Responsibilities- Lead technical development activities for utility-scale generation and BESS projects from early-stage evaluation through financial close, construction, and commercial operation.
- Develop and evaluate conceptual plant designs, site layouts, equipment configurations, and operating strategies to optimize project economics and reliability.
- Lead technology selection efforts and support negotiations with OEMs, EPC contractors, engineering consultants, and equipment suppliers.
- Manage interconnection activities, including system impact studies, facility studies, and coordination with utilities, ISOs, and RTOs.
- Direct Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) efforts and review engineering deliverables to ensure technical quality, constructability, and cost effectiveness.
- Establish project design criteria, technical specifications, and engineering standards across the development portfolio.
- Support environmental permitting efforts by providing technical guidance and engineering documentation.
- Conduct technical due diligence for acquisitions, development opportunities, and strategic investments.
- Partner with development, finance, and executive leadership teams to evaluate project opportunities and investment decisions.
- Support capital budgeting, project financial modeling, and economic analyses through technical inputs and assumptions.

- Participate in lender, investor, and independent engineer due diligence processes.
- Prepare and present technical recommendations to executive leadership and investment committees.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and market opportunities that enhance the company's competitive position.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between Base Electron, EPC contractors, OEMs, independent engineers, lenders, and third-party consultants.
- Review and approve detailed engineering packages, drawings, specifications, and technical submittals.
- Monitor engineering progress during project execution to ensure alignment with project schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.
- Oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning activities, performance testing, and project turnover.
- Support resolution of technical issues encountered during construction and startup.
- Develop engineering standards, operating philosophies, and asset management practices that support long-term fleet performance.
