Position OverviewThe Concrete Engineer is a team member of Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE). This position primarily supports construction operations, performs analysis, and designs for Kiewit projects, impacting other teams within the engineering district. The role is involved at any project lifecycle stage, from proposal development to construction oversight.
Key duties include technical proposal design, cost estimating support, final design development, concrete specification, mix design, testing procedures, thermal control, durability and service life engineering, construction engineering, and construction operations oversight.
LocationThis position is based out of our Westlake, TX office.
Responsibilities- Assist the Chief Concrete Engineer in providing and managing concrete technical solutions.
- Support pre‑bid evaluation, design constructability reviews, technical risk assessments, and construction operations work planning (e.g., placing procedures, pumping, mix design, value engineering, troubleshooting, proposal development, and training).
- Improve concrete quality and reduce quality issues through proactive engagement with jobs site personnel.
- Develop concrete related design requirements and specifications for construction.
- Interpret concrete material properties and construction quality results, including process control data.
- Serve as field engineer during construction when needed.
- Interpret and apply client specific design methodologies, specifications, and standards.
- Develop and maintain internal and external client relationships and construction partners, including project and non‑project related face‑to‑face meetings.
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree with emphasis in concrete or related field preferred).
- Minimum 7 years of directly applicable concrete experience (mix designs, thermal control analysis, service life engineering, forensic analysis, troubleshooting, testing procedures, applicable codes, ACI manual, etc.).
- Active US Professional Engineer (PE) required.
- Ability to travel in North America (expected travel ~25%).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledgeable in concrete industry standards such as ASTM, ACI, and CSA.
- Experience with software for concrete mixture proportioning, thermal modeling, and service life analysis.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
