Job Description

AECOM is hiring for a Civil Site Lead, Power Delivery with a primary focus on Transmission and Substation projects to support our growing Energy Business Line. This role offers remote flexibility and can be based at various Energy offices across the United States.

Our team provides a wide range of site civil services across electrical transmission and distribution systems and substations. Services include grading, drainage, stormwater management, SWPP, fencing, SESC, site plans, and geotechnical design. The candidate will lead discipline work, perform responsible engineering, and support the project manager on schedules, budgets, and deliverables.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all civil work at substation and transmission line sites, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and construction schedules.
  • Create and supervise earthwork, grading, drainage systems, access roads, cable trenches, and foundations, coordinating with equipment, controls buildings, and towers/poles.
  • Review, interpret, and create civil design drawings, technical documents, report discrepancies, and provide practical solutions.
  • Manage site surveys (geotechnical and ground LIDAR) to determine transmission line routes and substation layouts.
  • Review and approve civil construction methodologies, work plans, and method statements submitted by contractors.
  • Identify and mitigate site issues such as geotechnical conditions, access and environmental constraints, and constructability challenges, providing timely technical support.
  • Coordinate closely with electrical, protection, commissioning, planning, and project management to resolve interface and constructability issues.
  • Interact with customer internal engineers and technical experts on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients.
  • Provide technical leadership to site civil engineers and inspectors; assign tasks, review work, and mentor team members.
  • Check and review work sequence, general content, and specifications for calculations, approvals, revisions, retention, and storage.
  • Assist with task and effort estimates for proposal support.
  • Support project commissioning and hand‑over by ensuring all site civil work is completed safely and to specification.
  • Help plan and schedule engineering tasks within the site civil discipline.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with peers.
  • Occasional travel to other AECOM locations and client sites.
  • Participate in field walks, create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineering license (P.E.).
  • Proven experience with site grading, drainage, roads, earthworks, and substation layout development and transmission access/alignment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or Micro Station for civil design and detailing.
  • Understanding of substation site planning, transmission/substation access requirements, and integration with electrical layouts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant site civil experience with at least three years as project technical lead or engineer of record.
  • Strong knowledge of international civil and design standards (IEC, BS, IEEE, ANSI).
  • Experience with construction supervision, site inspection, and commissioning support.
  • Knowledge of hydrological analysis tools, stormwater modeling, or civil 3D/BIM software.
  • Experience in GIS or AIS substation developments.
  • Familiarity with major utility or transmission operator standards.
  • Professional Engineering license in Civil in California.
  • Experience with California Electric Utilities.
  • Self‑motivated.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Success in working with remote teams.
  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
  • Owner’s Engineering experience.
  • Experience with retrofit or brown‑field projects.
  • Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects.

Compensation

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $110,000 to $160,000 per year.
