Mission Hires is seeking a Forensic Consultant to lead and execute building rehabilitation and forensic assessment projects. You will investigate existing buildings, diagnose defects, develop repair strategies, direct multidisciplinary teams, and act as a trusted technical advisor to clients. This role combines hands‑on field work, technical analysis, design coordination, project management, mentorship, and client relationship ownership. Responsibilities
  • Conduct on‑site investigations and field reviews of existing buildings
  • Review background documents to determine original construction detailing and risk areas (water penetration, air leakage, condensation)
  • Assess structural engineering, building enclosures, commercial roofing, waterproofing systems, and exterior facades (including masonry)
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations documenting conditions, defects, and recommended repairs
  • Perform and lead peer reviews of findings and deliverables
  • Lead and participate in meetings with owners, developers, architects, adjustors, and consultants
  • Coordinate with designers, drafters, engineers, and consultants to produce construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents
  • Review drawings, details, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals for compliance with project intent and building science/engineering principles
  • Conduct on‑site QA observations for conformance with contracts, standards, manufacturer requirements, and best practices
  • Prepare site visit reports and ensure consistency and technical accuracy for team outputs
  • Provide oversight, mentorship, and training to technicians, specialists, and engineers
  • Own full project management: scope, schedule, design, budget, quality, staffing, and execution
  • Act as a trusted advisor, develop client relationships, and identify upsell/enhanced service opportunities
  • Proactively communicate project status, changes, and risks to clients and stakeholders
  • Track performance, manage change orders, and follow standardized company procedures
  • Manage time, budgets, resources, and schedules using department tools
  • Ensure utilization targets for self and direct reports
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, reviews, and development planning for direct reports where applicable
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Construction Engineering, or Architecture
  • Active PE/AIA or other relevant professional licensure
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the architecture, engineering, and/or construction industry
  • Strong understanding of residential, commercial, or institutional building design and construction
  • Knowledge of building enclosure design principles
  • Demonstrated experience with structural, building envelope, commercial roofing, and/or waterproofing projects (contractor‑side experience preferred)
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly in written and verbal formats
  • Proven client‑facing skills and ability to build rapport with contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders
  • Experience with project accounting, budget management, and schedule control
  • Proficiency with design/modeling software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit, WUFI, THERM preferred)
  • Strong technical writing, organization, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Leadership experience mentoring, training, and reviewing work of team members
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work, including navigating tight spaces, climbing ladders, working at heights and in confined spaces, and traveling by car/air/rail
  • Ability to lift and apply up to 30 lbs of force and maintain close visual attention
  • Successful completion of pre‑employment background check and drug test (including marijuana) per federal contracting requirements
