Position

Continuous Improvement Engineer

Primary Responsibilities
  • Identify, analyze, and implement process enhancements within the distribution network.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement, remove waste, optimize workflows, and streamline operations to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Work in alignment with KeHE’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Essential Functions
  • Conduct analyses of distribution processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize workflows, reduce lead times, and enhance distribution efficiency.
  • Utilize data analytics tools and statistical methods to gather and analyze data to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Apply Lean principles to identify and eliminate waste, reduce variability, and improve process stability.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings to gather input and gain buy-in for proposed changes.
  • Lead and support Lean projects to ensure successful implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to distribution center staff on updated processes, new technologies, and Lean principles.
  • Collaborate with IT to assess, select, and implement relevant technologies; identify opportunities for technology integration (automation, robotics, warehouse management systems).
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain, Quality) to understand current processes and drive improvements.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Proficiency with JDA Labor Management software for labor forecasting, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Strong ability to conduct time studies, process analysis, and workflow optimization.
  • Knowledge of Lean principles and experience implementing Lean projects.
  • Ability to manage and lead projects across multiple locations with consistent outcomes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Access).
  • Ability to travel 50–75% with periodic multi-state travel (airplane, rail, rental, or personal vehicle).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously and work independently or in a team.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management (required).
  • Master’s degree (a plus).
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in distribution process engineering focused on distribution process improvement and Lean engineering principles.
  • Lean training and/or certification required;
    Six Sigma knowledge is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Work in a temperature-controlled environment.
  • May sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Long periods at a desk or computer terminal.
  • May use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required.
  • Fast-paced environment; occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
