Job Summary

The Transportation Civil Designer plays a key role in supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams by developing high-quality design and drafting deliverables for a wide range of infrastructure and electrical projects. This position requires advanced proficiency in Open Roads Designer (ORD), Open Bridge Designer (OBM) and Civil 3D, with a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to industry and client standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, produce, and modify detailed design drawings and construction documents using Open Roads Designer (ORD), Open Bridge Designer (OBM) and Civil 3D.
  • Interpret engineering sketches, markups, and design concepts to independently generate complete and accurate drawing packages.
  • Prepare and revise plan sets, profiles, details, and plot drawings for design submittals and construction documentation.
  • Apply and enforce company, client, and industry CAD standards, supporting consistency and quality across all deliverables.
  • Coordinate closely with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to integrate electrical systems into overall project designs.
  • Utilize and maintain CAD standards, templates, and detail libraries to streamline production and improve drafting efficiency.
  • Identify design conflicts or inconsistencies and proactively propose practical, technically sound solutions.
  • Perform quality control reviews of drawings to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Support design development through redline incorporation, field markups, and as-built documentation updates.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to CAD workflows, standards, and best practices.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to junior drafters or team members as needed.
  • Collaborate on projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Support compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and project requirements.
Required Skills
  • Expert understanding of design software such as:
    AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Micro Station, and Excel to develop the design deliverables.
  • Expert knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
  • Expert knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or related field and 7 years related experience required; OR
  • Associate Degree and 8 years related experience required; OR
  • 9 years progressive detailing and design experience required.
Required Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of related experience with a Bachelor's Degree in drafting technology or related field; OR minimum 8 years of related experience with an Associate Degree; OR minimum 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience.
