Position Information
The Dallas District Project Delivery Office (PDO) Schematic Section is looking for Transportation Engineers to work on the district's numerous schematic project portfolio managed within PDO. This position will manage schematic projects from concept through environmental clearance and right‑of‑way coordination prior to beginning PS&E, providing experience in major project development processes and consultant contract management.
Position Title and SalaryTransportation Engineer III (B26): $76,530.00 – $ per year;
Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $84,182.00 – $ per year;
Transportation Engineer V (B28): $92,600.00 – $ per year.

- Perform advanced and complex transportation engineering design work.
- Review and process plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Monitor consultant progress and work quality; check invoices and related documents.
- Represent the district at technical meetings and public hearings.
- Make presentations and represent TxDOT.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science; degrees accepted by TX PELS.
Experience- Transportation Engineer III: 6 years of engineering or transportation experience, or equivalent graduate education substituting one year per year.
- Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years of engineering or transportation experience, or equivalent graduate education substituting one year per year.
- Transportation Engineer V: 8 years of engineering or transportation experience, or equivalent graduate education substituting one year per year.
- Valid driver’s license; driving a state vehicle required.
- Professional engineer license in another U.S. state, but not currently licensed in Texas, must obtain a Texas PE license within six months of hire and sign an agreement to that effect.
- Effective communication.
- Knowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations.
- Understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles.
- Preparation, review, processing, and compliance of plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Understanding of construction engineering policies and procedures.
- Logical reasoning to define problems, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
- Presentation skills for clear, concise, organized communication.
- Application of engineering principles, practices, and methods.
- Sedentary work; can lift up to 10 lbs and occasionally carry files or small tools.
- Physically demanding; pre‑employment physical required.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions; subject to random drug testing.
