Position Overview
Mechanical Engineering duties include providing support for engineering and construction projects at power generation, cogeneration, and district heating and cooling facilities.
Project types include combined and simple cycle power generation, reciprocating engine power generation, steam and chilled water distribution, water treatment, air quality control and plant betterment, and renewables including solar, wind and battery storage.
Work typically includes design and consulting for both steam cycle and balance‑of‑plant systems including steam, condensate, cooling water, water treatment, natural gas, compressed air, fire protection, HVAC, air quality control, material handling and other similar systems.
Responsibilities- Perform engineering calculations and code reviews
- Size and select materials and equipment
- Participate in site visits and surveys
- Develop and review piping and instrument drawings
- Review manufacturers drawings and submittals
- Develop procurement and construction specifications
- Perform bid evaluations
- Evaluate existing systems and equipment
- Technical report writing
- Participate in team meetings
- Communicate with equipment vendors
- Process engineering submittals, and other similar tasks as assigned
- Travel may be required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university or a related field such as Chemical Engineering
- Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related to Power Generation
- EIT certification strongly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to the field of study or industry
- Strong interest in power generation, design, and consulting work
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Positive attitude, ability to coordinate work with others and work as part of a team environment
- Ability to travel
- Self‑motivated with ability to work independently
- Attention to accuracy, detail orientation, self‑directed learning, ability to meet deadlines
- Strong organizational skills with capability to multitask
- Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software)
- Commitment to being an active participant of HDR’s employee‑owned culture
