JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern seeks a skilled and experienced Power Plant Operator I to join our Thermal Energy Plant team.
We are looking for some with two (2) plus years work experience with maintenance of boilers, chillers, HVAC/refrigeration systems, steam systems, cooling towers, pumps, water treatment, and building automations and strong computer literacy; a certified operator program or power plant technology education, CFC or EIT certification/license, along with experience in electro-mechanical, controls, plumbing and/or welding preferred but not required.
As a Power Plant Operator I, you will support with daily maintenance and operations of boiler, steam, chiller, cooling tower, and HVAC systems; working under close supervision, this role performs semi-skilled mechanical and electrical tasks to ensure safe, reliable plant operations.
Work Location:
Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations as needed.
Shift Requirement:
Requires schedule flexibility, including nights, weekends, holidays, and potential on-call coverage during emergencies or staffing needs. Assigned shift to be discussed during interview with hiring management team.

* Education
* High School Diploma or equivalent
* Experience
* 2 years of semi-skilled level experience in operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, or industrial equipment.
* May consider additional related education in lieu of experience (each year completed from a related plant operator higher education training program may be substituted for a year of required experience; this includes related vocational or trade school).
Preferred
* Experience
* Completion of certified operator program and experience in university physical plant environment.
* Licenses and Certifications

JOB DUTIES
* Starts up, shuts down, and adjusts power plant and/or chilling station equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
* Monitors equipment and maintains records of equipment operational status.
* Cleans and maintains equipment and work areas.
* Operates control computer systems.
* Performs detailed inspections of operating equipment for proper operation.
* Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies.
* Identifies and reports safety hazards and equipment malfunctions.
* Attends meetings and training courses.
* Trains new personnel as required.
* May perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks incidental to operation of mechanical or electrical systems.
* May complete work orders using automated maintenance program systems.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
