Position SummaryThis position is responsible for operating multiple Veolia contracted client water and wastewater facilities. The primary purpose is to cover vacations and absences at existing facilities, assist in the training and development of local operations teams, and serve in a support role at new account start-ups. The role includes assisting with the overall operation and maintenance of accounts in the region, process changes to meet compliance, troubleshooting processes and equipment, maintenance (routine, reactive, and preventive), process and compliance sampling, laboratory testing, and writing and distributing a daily shift report.
Between assignments at designated accounts, the role involves developing training resources for general water and wastewater industry knowledge and site-specific treatment training for technicians in the region. This position requires significant travel, ranging from 1–2 weeks away from home at a time to extended periods, including up to a month in extenuating circumstances.
- Maintain complete operational coverage of Veolia-operated facilities in the designated region during vacations and unplanned absences. Coverage may include day and night shifts, requiring schedule flexibility.
- Develop local technicians within the region through in-person training visits, development of electronic training materials and resources, and directing training efforts. Provide additional training for new technicians as they are hired.
- Ensure industry standards and best practices are used at Veolia-operated facilities, including recordkeeping, lab testing procedures, operational practices, and preventative maintenance.
- Support new account start-ups by working with the SWOT team to develop operational tasks, procedures, and goals, and by training newly hired technicians.
- Provide knowledgeable support to troubleshoot process issues and encourage proactive decision-making by local technicians.
- Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow into the wastewater treatment plant.
- Collect and test wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities at the designated frequency.
- Maintain accurate records of client data such as chemical residuals, water turbidity, and water pressure.
- Comply with Veolia safety programs and parameters.
- Analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non-compliance.
- May compile data for the Environmental Protection Agency or state regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate with other operators to maintain wastewater treatment equipment and consult with multiples and Veolia management on treatment decisions.
- Coordinate with multiple teams to schedule third-party maintenance for projects outside Veolia’s scope.
- Complete all preventative maintenance as defined, documenting PM activities such as changing filters, changing oil, greasing bearings, recording temperatures, and exercising valves.
- Complete or assist with minor maintenance projects to keep the facility operating effectively, including equipment repairs and replacements (e.g., pumps, valves, piping).
- Complete or assist with intermediate maintenance projects, such as replacing seals and salvaging equipment components to maintain plant performance.
- Provide support and leadership to fellow operators, including off-shift coverage when needed and 24/7 availability to operators and management.
- Communicate regularly with the Veolia Account Manager regarding plant operation, compliance, maintenance, and personnel issues.
