Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Engineering Technician II is responsible for the assembly, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of advanced electro-optical products supporting research, product development, and low-volume manufacturing. Working closely with electrical, mechanical, optical, manufacturing, and systems engineers, this role builds prototype hardware, supports engineering evaluations, performs product characterization, and assists in transitioning designs into production.

The technician will assemble precision optical, mechanical, and electronic subsystems used in microdisplay, imaging, wearable, and data interconnect products. Responsibilities include prototype assembly, engineering change implementation, hardware debugging, environmental testing, failure analysis, and maintaining detailed build and test documentation.

Applications include AR/VR systems, HUDs/HMDs, imaging devices, weapon sights, silicon photonics, optical assemblies, and advanced microdisplay products operating in demanding military and commercial environments.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assemble precision electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical hardware including microdisplays, optical assemblies, electronic subassemblies, sensors, cabling, and complete system prototypes.
  • Perform prototype builds directly from engineering drawings, CAD models, work instructions, bills of materials, and verbal engineering guidance.
  • Support engineering development by assembling, modifying, and reworking prototype hardware throughout multiple design iterations.
  • Integrate optical, mechanical, and electrical subsystems into complete products while identifying assembly, tolerance, and manufacturability issues.
  • Execute functional, environmental, and performance testing using engineering procedures while documenting results and reporting anomalies.
  • Perform troubleshooting and failure analysis on prototype and production hardware, identifying mechanical, electrical, and optical root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Operate laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, environmental chambers, microscopes, photometers, alignment equipment, and other optical or electronic test instrumentation.
  • Support optical alignment, focus adjustment, calibration, and precision mechanical assembly using microscopes and specialized tooling.
  • Maintain accurate build records, test reports, engineering logs, deviation reports, and configuration documentation supporting product development and manufacturing.
  • Assist engineering with fixture development, tooling improvements, manufacturing process development, and design-for-manufacturability initiatives.
  • Follow established procedures for ESD protection, clean room operation, handling of precision optics, and safe laboratory practices.
  • Participate in prototype builds, engineering investigations, design reviews, product validation, and transition-to-production activities.
