Building Automation Systems Specialist

Under the general direction of the Building Automation Systems Administrator or the District Energy Plants Manager, supports the planning, expansion, operation, and usage of various DFW Building Automation Systems (BAS)/ Distributed Control Systems (DCS) which manage HVAC, Lighting, electrical service, and other facility/utility related systems. Provides level two support for access to the systems and operation of equipment Becomes familiar with the basics of DFW Airport's Environmental Management System & Environmental Policy and implements Best Management & Good Housekeeping Practices.

What you will be doing:

  • Participates in the planning and design of BAS/DCS in new construction and facility renovation/expansion projects with internal project management teams and outside consultants, architects, and engineering firms.
  • Assists with planning vendor activities for repair and upgrade of existing systems. Track progress of work and reports same to BAS Administrator/District Energy Plants Manager.
  • Responsible for backup and disaster recovery of managed systems.
  • Assists with maintaining specifications for BAS/DCS systems in support of DFW Airport projects.
  • Assists with development of networking, operating server, system access, and firewall strategies for BAS/DCS operation across multiple networks. Under the direction of the BAS Administrator/District Energy Plants Manager implements or oversees implementation of these strategies.
  • Manages BACnet or appropriate system communication protocol registry and assignments.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for all projects involving HVAC, lighting, or other digital facility systems.
  • Participates in project meetings for work implemented by other Airport departments.
  • Works with ETAM Commissioning group to conduct final acceptance tests for all additions and revisions to the BAS/DCS.
  • Reviews and modifies BAS/DCS system graphics to improve usability and functionality.
  • Monitors and verifies proper functionality of the BAS/DCS software programming, sequence of operations (SOO), and human machine interface (HMI) graphics of assigned systems.
  • Documents system changes and modifications
  • Responds to inquiries from Airport staff, tenants, airline management and contractors to evaluate equipment performance and provide troubleshooting support.
  • Provides training and guidance on the use of BA/DCS systems and the equipment it operates.
  • Acts as a lead, or project coordinator, over a group of technicians, contractor personnel, or Terminal maintenance activity in performing related BAS/DCS repairs, modifications, and upgrades.
  • Oversees the system monitoring and measures the performance and health of systems in area of focus and responds accordingly when systems fail to meet desired metrics.
  • Research, reviews, and implements new functionality and new application system components.
  • Works within a disciplined change-and-configuration management environment to maintain control over the configuration and introduction of new function to the operations.
  • Participates on cross-functional teams to implement improved business solutions/business processes based on strategic plans.
  • Maintains professional proficiency in the latest technologies and state of the art in infrastructure technologies.
  • Keeps the DFW Design Criteria Manual updated with the latest technologies and standards.
  • Coordinates and performs network administration tasks.
  • Provides device IP addressing and Firewall rules management technical support for LAN/VLAN related problems.
  • Makes recommendations for and ensures compliance with network administrative procedures.
  • Coordinates with various stakeholder groups in troubleshooting and resolving facility mechanical, electrical, and networking system issues associated with BAS/DCS.
  • Monitors status of network servers, fiber optics networks and associated network switches to maintain systems reliability and resiliency.

What you need:

  • Associates degree in engineering, energy, computer science, or related field.
  • Four years combined experience including BAS or DCS and/or enterprise centralized and real-time industrial process applications and maintenance.
