O'Brien Industries Inc. seeks a Civil Professional Engineer to lead design and coordination for industrial and utility projects within our Engineering & Design department. Responsibilities include site layout, foundations, structural supports, drainage, and utility coordination, producing calculations, drawings, and specifications that emphasize reliability and constructability. You'll collaborate closely with fabrication, project management, and customers to solve complex challenges, support construction, and ensure safe, code-compliant solutions.
This employee-centered role offers long-term project stability and opportunities to deepen technical expertise in engineered products and custom fabrication.
Responsibilities
- Lead civil and structural design for industrial and utility projects (site, grading, foundations, supports).
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, and technical specifications aligned with applicable codes and standards.
- Coordinate closely with fabrication, project management, and field teams to ensure constructable, reliable designs.
- Support permitting, submittals, and responses to RFIs and construction-phase engineering questions.
- Perform site assessments, review field data, and provide engineered solutions to existing conditions.
- Collaborate with customers to define requirements, resolve technical issues, and support long-term relationships.
- Review and stamp civil/structural drawings and calculations as a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Contribute to safety-first, continuous-improvement initiatives in engineering methods and design standards.
- Mentor junior engineers/designers and support their technical development.
- Ensure quality control and documentation of all engineering deliverables.
