Functional Safety Engineer

We are seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to support the safety and reliability of autonomous robotic vehicles. This role involves identifying hazards and risks using Systems-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), supporting the definition of safety requirements, and implementing safety measures throughout the product development lifecycle. The Functional Safety Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into the design, development, verification, and validation of technologies while ensuring alignment with applicable industry standards, internal processes, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a strong culture of safety and compliance across the organization by ensuring safety is prioritized and integrated into daily operations.
  • Contribute to the development of functional safety concepts and requirements for autonomous vehicle control systems.
  • Apply a strong understanding of functional safety life cycles and related processes.
  • Conduct safety analyses, including:
    • Systems-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA)
    • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to ensure safety requirements are properly allocated throughout the design and development process.
  • Review functional safety verification and validation activities, including safety testing and simulation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal safety processes and workflows, which are based on relevant functional safety standards and regulatory requirements, including:
    • ISO 25119
    • ISO 13849
    • IEC 61508
  • Prepare and maintain functional safety documentation, including safety plans, safety cases, and safety reports.
  • Participate in internal and external safety audits and assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams on functional safety-related matters.
  • Stay current with advancements in functional safety, autonomous vehicle technologies, standards, and industry best practices.
