Piping Design Technician Specialist (JT5)

The Piping Design Technician Specialist (JT5) serves as a senior technical design professional responsible for developing complex piping system layouts, 3D models, construction deliverables, and multidisciplinary coordination for industrial, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, life sciences, and process facility projects. This position provides technical leadership, mentoring, and design direction while ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and Jacobs quality procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Piping Design & Layout
- Develop complex piping layouts and equipment arrangements.
- Perform detailed routing of process, utility, and specialty piping systems.
- Analyze design requirements from PFDs, P&IDs, specifications, and vendor documentation.
- Ensure piping systems are safe, operable, maintainable, and constructible.
- Support design optimization and value engineering initiatives.
- 3D Modeling & BIM Coordination
- Create and maintain intelligent 3D piping models.
- Develop LOD 300 and LOD 400 design models.
- Coordinate with structural, mechanical, process, instrumentation, architectural, and electrical disciplines.
- Participate in model reviews and clash detection activities.
- Resolve interferences and design conflicts.

- Field Installation Drawings
- Review design deliverables for quality and completeness.
- Technical Leadership
- Mentor junior and intermediate designers.
- Provide technical guidance on piping design standards and best practices.
- Participate in discipline reviews and constructability reviews.
- Support project staffing and work-share coordination.
- Assist discipline leads with schedule and resource planning.
- Construction Support
- Evaluate and respond to construction RFIs.
- Support field walkdowns and site assessments.
- Develop solutions to field installation issues.
- Review as-built documentation.
- Coordinate implementation of design changes during construction.
Here's what you'll need
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in Design Technology, Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
Typically 10+ years of piping design experience.
Advanced knowledge of:
Industrial piping systems
Process facility design
Construction practices
Pipe routing and layout principles
Proficiency with:
CADWorx
AutoCAD
Plant 3D
Navisworks
Bluebeam
Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
Semiconductor or electronics manufacturing experience.
Advanced manufacturing facility experience.
Experience supporting EPC and EPCM projects.
LOD 400 modeling experience.
Point cloud and laser scan integration experience.
Construction support experience.
Lead Designer or Area Lead experience.
