Geologist

EXCO Resources, Inc. is a private independent oil and natural gas company engaged in the exploration, exploitation, acquisition, development and production of onshore U.S. oil and natural gas properties with a focus on shale resource plays. Our principal operations are conducted in certain key U.S. oil and natural gas areas including Texas, Louisiana and the Appalachia region. Our headquarters are in Dallas, TX.

We are currently looking for a Geologist :

Responsible for a variety of geological assignments requiring a broad knowledge of a geological specialty.

Solves problems using a combination of standard or modified procedures.

Performs independent studies, and analyses, interprets, and draws conclusions on the results.

• Completes field studies to identify infill, and field extension opportunities and recommends the optimum development drilling and completions program.
• Works with the engineering department to assign risk and reserves.
• Oversees the drilling of wells and support the wells through the drilling/completion phase.
• Provides technical support on an as needed basis to the operation staff as they pertain to management for the properties operated by the Company. This includes log evaluation, core analysis, geophysics, etc…
• Prepares geological and geophysical studies as requested by management for properties managed by the Company.
• Keeps abreast of new technology and industry development.
• Supports his/her recommendations through oral presentations, written reports, maps, cross-sections, calculations, and other support data.
• Performs other related duties and/or special projects as required.

Masters’ degree in Geology or Bachelor’s degree with comparable work experience. Developed knowledge of oil and gas production. Developed knowledge of geological exploration techniques.

Familiarity with the Haynesville, Eagle Ford, Marcellus and Utica shales.

5-10 years related experience in oil and gas industry.

Well-developed analytical and problem solving abilities. Ability to research information. Effective written and oral communication skills. Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Strong ability with some or all of the following software:
ArcGIS, Petra, SMT Kingdom, and Star Steer.
