Vaco is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join one of our boutique investment management clients. This role will support day-to-day accounting operations across management company and investment entities, with exposure to fund accounting, financial reporting, and operational processes.
Vaco placed an analyst on the team last year that loves it - 3-4 on the team here in Dallas (owner + head of investor relations) - very outgoing group, looking for energetic and interactive folks.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and intercompany transactions
- Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data
- Assist with accounting for investment activity, including capital calls, distributions, and investment valuations
- Coordinate with external fund administrators and custodians to reconcile activity and balances
- Track management fees, carried interest allocations, and investor-related transactions
- Support preparation of financial statements and internal management reports
- Assist with variance analysis and expense tracking against budgets
- Prepare supporting schedules for leadership review
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting efficiency
- Support implementation or optimization of accounting systems and tools
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 1-3+ years of accounting experience (public accounting or financial services experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP fundamentals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
- Experience in investment management, private equity, hedge funds, or financial services preferred
- Familiarity with fund accounting concepts and partnership structures preferred
- CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Quick Books, Net Suite, Sage Intacct, or similar)
