Description

Our client is a growing firm looking to add some horsepower to their health practice and looking for a mid-level health actuarial consultant. Ideal candidate will have 4+ years experience dealing with the financials of health and welfare plans, ideally gained in a benefit consulting/brokerage firm or health underwriting / actuarial function of an insurance company. Must be at or near ASA level to be considered.

Ideal candidate would also have exposure or experience working with Taft Hartley clients. Not a requirement, but a big plus.

Duties and responsibilities:
Focus on medical, prescription drug, dental and vision plans
Perform and review plan ratings
Calculate and review both manual and experience-based self-insured ratings
Develop medical trend assumptions
Project and evaluate fully- and self-insured premium renewal rates
Estimate and project claims loss ratios
Calculated IBNR and IBNP liabilities
Calculate and compare actuarial values of H&W plans
Validate, reconcile, and review participant/member data to be used in the actuarial valuation
Analyze and review all aspects of valuation results, including review of liabilities, sample lives, gain/loss analysis, pricing models, and projection models
Organize and prepare Excel files to calculate results for funding valuations
Expand upon existing understanding of valuation and/or pricing systems and results
Draft health valuation reports and/or update existing documents for new results
Analyze / evaluate data to identify areas of focus or opportunities for self-insured populations
Mentor and help develop actuarial skill sets for entry level analysts

May serve as project manager
Initiate project planning and organization
Monitor deadlines, project progress, and budget
Facilitate effective internal communication among team members
