Looking to lead a high-impact tax team and shape scalable financial systems?
This role puts you at the center of it all. As Tax Director, Property Tax you’ll oversee the full Tax function across a complex, multi-entity enterprise—driving accuracy, compliance, and reporting excellence.
You’ll work closely with senior leaders across Finance, Property Ops, and Treasury, while mentoring a team of talented accountants. If you thrive in environments going through transformation—ERP upgrades, expansion, or change management—this is your moment.
Core Responsibilities- Strategic Direction: Develop and execute the long-term property tax strategy and roadmap, incorporating modern technology and data components.
- People Leadership: Lead, train, and develop a team of property tax professionals (Analysts, Associates, Managers, and Consultants), effectively managing both direct and matrixed analytical/technical resources.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Establish strong internal credibility and partner with Operations, Accounting, FP&A, Asset Management, and Technology to align budgeting, forecasting, and operational workflows.
- Financial Management & Forecasting: Oversee all property tax financial functions. This includes leading annual budgeting/semi-annual reforecasting, coordinating cash forecasting with the Cash Management team, managing monthly accruals and expense amortization, and performing variance analyses.
- Appeals & Vendor Oversight: Direct the property tax appeals process and manage end-to-end relationships and contracts with third-party compliance, payment, and appeal vendors across the company’s footprint.
- Tax Authority Relations: Cultivate relationships with state and local property tax officials, and proactively resolve complex or unusual tax matters.
- Approvals & Compliance: Review and approve property tax payments to ensure total accuracy and compliance.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or a related field.
- Certifications: CMI, CFA, or CPA designation is a plus.
- Industry
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of real estate industry experience required. ideally within a REIT structure—is highly preferred. - Domain Knowledge: Robust understanding of multi-state property tax cycles.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Yardi is preferred.
