Position: Manager, Pricing--Commercial Excellence (OPEN TO ALL U.S. LOCATIONS)

Overview

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm that helps private‑equity firms improve the operating results of their portfolio companies. This role is Manager, Pricing—Commercial Excellence within A&M’s Private Equity Performance Improvement Services.

Team and Services
  • Private Equity Performance Improvement focuses on revenue and margin optimization for middle‑market and large‑cap private‑equity firms.
  • The Commercial Excellence team supports ongoing Transformation, Strategy, Interim Management, Operations Improvement, Supply Chain, and CFO services.
Responsibilities
  • Advise companies on Revenue & Margin Management: margin transparency, product portfolio optimization, SKU rationalization, price optimization, and margin recovery.
  • Lead teams of A&M professionals to design and implement analytical plans that uncover drivers of performance and develop actionable solutions.
  • Margin Transparency
    • Evaluate current cost allocation processes and mechanisms.
    • Assess profitability by market, customer, product category, and SKU.
    • Identify additional complexity‑driven costs‑to‑serve and recommend improvements.
    • Implement cost‑to‑serve premiums and targeted price adjustments and quantify impact on margin.
  • Product Portfolio Optimization
    • Assess competitive landscape and customer trends.
    • Evaluate product portfolio against financial measures, life‑cycle stage, and competitive differentiation.
    • Develop sales and investment strategies and implementation plans.
  • SKU Rationalization
    • Identify low or negative net‑margin SKUs and evaluate elimination opportunities.
    • Reduce complexity through SKU rationalization initiatives.
  • Price Optimization
    • Assess pricing strategies and quantify profitability opportunities through value‑based and transactional levers.
    • Improve pricing processes, approval, and discount controls.
    • Implement price increases driven by market, competitive, and contractual factors.
  • Margin Recovery
    • Review costs and potential pass‑through benefits.
    • Identify and execute recovery opportunities for complexity drivers.
    • Enhance pricing and quoting processes to recover costs.
  • Contribute to internal intellectual property, team building, and continuous learning initiatives.
Professional Skills
  • Project management – owner of project delivery end to end.
  • Project fulfillment – analytical rigor to produce actionable insights.
  • Data manipulation and analysis using Excel, SQL, BI tools such as Alteryx or Tableau, and statistical programs like SPSS or R.
  • People and team leadership – motivate and develop junior team members.
  • Client relations – manage day‑to‑day relationships and collaborate with client teams.
Qualifications
  • Industry experience in B2B and business services; experience working with private equity is a plus.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of P&L and cost drivers.
  • 7–10 years focused on Revenue & Margin management with pricing process development and implementation.
  • Experience with value‑based, transactional, discount leakage, pass‑through pricing and tools such as Vendavo.
  • Analytical skill set with exposure to SQL, Alteryx, Tableau, SPSS, R, or web analytics.
  • Excellent quantitative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional project management and presentation abilities.
  • Outstanding people development and management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership on complex projects.
  • Independent high‑level critical thinking in an unstructured environment.
  • Consulting experience preferred (not required).
  • MBA from a top‑tier university preferred (not required).
Benefits and Compensation

The salary range is $125,000–$190,000 annually, dependent on education, experience, skills, and geography. A&M offers a discretionary bonus program and, for eligible employees, a 401(k) retirement plan with company contributions.
