Key Responsibilities And Duties
- Leads the enterprise Model Risk Management (MRM) program, setting the vision, frameworks, and operating standards for the independent oversight and governance of model risk across all business lines and risk types.
- Manages a global team of direct and indirect reports, and liaises with international counterparts.
- Ensures delivery of the model validation department’s objectives, engagement, and team development.
- Owns and chairs the Model Risk Working Group.
- Participates in key governance bodies covering privacy, AI, data, and bias impact.
- Presents regularly to key risk management committees including ALCO and Business Area Risk Management Committees.
- Develops and maintains the enterprise framework for evaluating and validating AI and machine learning models, including large language models and generative AI.
- Serves as a key contributor and thought leader within TIAA’s enterprise AI governance structure.
- Monitors emerging AI model risk trends and evolves the MRM program’s frameworks, methodologies, and capabilities.
- Stays current on regulations affecting model risk and AI, aligning the MRM Program to them and representing MRM to regulators.
- Approves complex mathematical analyses and validates custom‑built and third‑party proprietary models.
- Analyzes findings from statistical analyses to advise senior and executive level management.
- Reviews and communicates statistical analysis and findings to audit and regulatory examiners.
- Ensures models are fit for intended purpose and that model users understand strengths and limitations.
- Reads, understands, and interprets regulatory rules and guidance related to models under development or review/validation.
